Strathclyde University Big Band @ The Drygate

The Strathclyde University Big Band featuring vocalist Unoma Okudo

Director: Ronnie MacNiven

The Strathclyde University Big Band is one of only a few long-standing University-based big bands in Britain and has established a reputation for playing varied, interesting and challenging music.

Since the band's formation in 1978, many dozens of musicians have passed through its ranks. The members of the band are mostly current or former students, staff or ex-staff of the University, together with a few enthusiastic friends from outwith the University.

The band's extensive repertoire is jazz-orientated. For example, the Drygate concert may include arrangements of jazz standards by John Coltrane, Nat Adderley, Thelonious Monk, Hank Mobley, Benny Golson, Ernie Wilkins and Kenny Dorham. The concert will also feature the wonderful Unoma Okudo singing well-known standards with the band.
